WHAT IS A ROOT CANAL?
A root canal is a procedure to fix a tooth when the inside part (called pulp) gets infected or hurt. During the process, a specialist removes the bad pulp, cleans the inside of the tooth, and seals it to stop the infection from coming back. This helps save the tooth from being pulled out and usually stops any pain.
WHEN ARE ROOT CANALS NEEDED?
Root canals are mostly needed when a tooth gets a deep cavity, infection, crack, or injury. Signs that you might need one include strong tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, or a bump on the gum. If Dr. Carlson, thinks you need a root canal, he will refer you to a specialist called an endodontist who is an expert in root canals.
